Santa Rosa Plateau starts Junior Ranger Program

by admin

A new program aimed at young nature enthusiasts is running at the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve.

The Junior Ranger Program hopes to nurture a love of the environment and stewardship among children between 5 and 14, a news release states. The hands-on program is interactive and allows participants to explore habitats on the preserve. Rangers take part in activities such as wildlife viewing and family hikes, the release states. The program also includes online searches and activities.

It is a partnership between the Nature Education Foundation at the Santa Rosa Plateau and the Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District.

The free program includes three levels. Pathfinder is for children between 5 and 7, Trailblazers is for those ages 8 to 10 and Adventurers is for 11- to 14-year-olds. Those who complete the program receive a Junior Ranger Certificate, Junior Ranger Nature Tag and a one-year Quail Covey Membership to The Nature Education Foundation for their family. The membership includes up to six passes to the reserve and is valued at $100.

“By connecting children with the uniqueness of the Santa Rosa Plateau, we aim to cultivate a sense of responsibility towards our planet and its precious resources,” Ginger Greaves, executive director of the Nature Education Foundation, said in the release.
